Slot Overview: Running Wild with Bulls
Toro, toro, Red Tiger has colored an online slot game named Bulls Run Wild with the contentious activity of Bull Fighting. That’s hardly the kind of thing a toreador likes to hear before entering the arena, but it does set the stage for the game mechanics and features of Bulls Run Wild. Bulls Run Wild is a low-key slot machine that draws players in with its bright visuals and promises to thrill them with its Wild Picker makeover feature and free spins.
The Bull Fighting Amphitheatre is crowded with spectators ready to see a game of Bulls Run Wild, played on a grid set up on the sand in the center of the arena. Like sports video game crowds before game designers or technology could animate them, the crowd has a pseudo-real aspect to it, but they are fully static and a bit fuzzy. There’s motion, a few flags wave here and there, and a sultry backing track rounds off the effect, effectively heightening the dense Spanish mood.
Although Bulls Run Wild is one of Red Tiger’s most playful slot machines, the combination of high volatility and average potential doesn’t seem particularly well balanced. If you can’t resist the bullring, you may play it on any device for as little as 10 pence or as much as £/€40 each spin.
The action takes place on a gaming board with five reels, three rows, and twenty fixed paylines. There are nine standard symbols available, and payouts occur from left to right, beginning with the symbol on the leftmost reel. Card symbols from 10 to A make up five of the lower-paying icons, with entire lines of these symbols paying out between 0.5x and 0.9x the wager. The other four symbols—fans, guitars, senoritas, and seors—pay out between 2x and 7.5x the wager for five of a kind. The wild symbols, shown as great horned bulls, can appear anywhere and stand in for any other symbol to complete a winning combination. If you have a winning line with five wild symbols, you’ll get paid 15 times your wager.
Slot Game Features in “Bulls Run Wild”
Every every spin in Bulls Run Wild uses the game’s wild transformation feature, whether you’re playing for real money or for free. When free spins are triggered, players gain a perk in the form of sticky wilds.
The Wild Picker Bar and the Raging Bulls
At the beginning of each spin, the Wild Picker Bar atop the reels will display a random pay symbol. If any of these symbols appear on the grid, they will be replaced with wilds. After the wild substitutions have been made, any winners that occurred during the spin will be paid out.
Bonus Turns
If scatters appear on reels 1, 3, and 5, the player receives nine free games. The Wild Picker Bar continues to operate normally, making all instances of the selected symbol type on the reels wild. When wild symbols occur during this bonus round, they will remain where they are until the round ends. Free spins cannot be retriggered since the Scatter symbols have been removed from the reels.
Wild Bulls: The Slots Have Won!
Not every game can be a rip-roaring beast, but that’s okay, Bulls Run Wild is what it is. You can’t have one without the other; likewise, darkness cannot exist without day. As a result, it’s becoming clear that Bulls Run Wild didn’t engage in much that qualified as very wild or insane. A short and easy game that may satisfy the hunger of certain players but fails to catch the imagination. Red Tiger, in taking on a potentially divisive subject, has successfully added some glamour and mystery to the mix, giving players a flavor of the Iberian Peninsula, albeit a stereotyped one. Who knows, if we put our minds to it, even retired toreros could enjoy Bulls Run Wild.
If so, it probably won’t be much of a thrill because Bulls Run Wild has restricted capabilities. The process of going from symbol to wild can occasionally provide some moderately fascinating results. The feature is aided by the fact that wilds are sticky during free spins (since, you know, the more, the merrier). Perhaps it was just our overactive imaginations, but we had the impression that the main game was a bit more likely to land the selected symbols on the reels than the bonus round. In free games, for instance, the number 9 could mysteriously disappear if the player selects it. It’s possible that our eyes were deceiving us, or that we were just keeping a closer eye out for certain symbols during free spins than usual because of the sticky wild feature. It doesn’t matter much because they didn’t do much shooting, and the maximum premium pays just 150x the stake for a complete screen (or 300x for a screen full of wild bulls). Theoretically, a repeat full-screen occurrence early in a bonus round may be quite thrilling, but the total max win isn’t all that at 1947.8x the stake.
As you may have guessed by now, Bulls Run Wild did not leave a lasting impression on us. The colorful Spanish atmosphere is nice, and its rather light allure may appeal to some. The Wild Toro series of toreador slots by ELK is still the gold standard, and Bulls Run Wild has trouble coming close to matching its quality.
