The end of 2014 was a rough season for me emotionally. I felt tired, drained, and kind of empty. God opened the door for me to return back to Israel, where in the Garden of Gethsemane, He spoke to me about the discouragement in my heart.
As we started walking through the garden, I noticed that the olives trees were full of fresh olives and workers were harvesting them. I had been to the garden 5 times before, but never during harvest time so I had never seen the branches full of olives. God started to speak to me about seasons.
I sat and was reflecting on what took place at the Garden of Gethsemane. Gethsemane means olive press. This was where Jesus prayed and was betrayed the night before His crucifixion. In Luke 22:39-46, Jesus asked, Father, if you are willing take this cup from me, if not my will your will be done. As He prayed in agony, His sweat was like drops of blood. Jesus was pressed in this place and faced one of His darkest nights.
I felt the Lord ask me, Where is Jesus now? My next thought was, He is ruling and reigning at the right hand of God. He completed the dark night of His soul and now rules and reigns. Victorious over death. Champion of Heaven. His victory is our victory. We will face dark nights, but we have to remember we can live victorious in Him.
Each of us face seasons in life that we feel pressed and God calls us to surrender. Times that we lay down our will for His will. You may feel like I did, that you’re sowing seeds but not seeing much of a harvest. These times can lead us to disappointment and discouragement. God directed me to this scripture:
Galatians 6:9, Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
God is faithful. Being a son or daughter of God, He has seated us in Heavenly places with favor. We can count on Him that as we sow, we will also reap. This is a guarantee, though it may not be in the ways and timeframes we always hope for.
As I was sitting in the Garden, God was reminding me that I would see a harvest of the seeds I had been sowing. The Lord was encouraging me right where I was that His eye is on me and I would see a harvest. I wanted to get a picture of the people harvesting the olives so I could remember this moment. I went over by the fence to get a picture of the small pile of olives that was on a tarp under the trees. A man who was working and had been in the way of my picture said, Let me move out of the way. Then, he stopped and said, Wait, wait we have this other pile. Let me add it to the small pile so you can have a picture of a big pile. There were lots of people around and there was no specific reason why he should have interacted with just me. He had no idea the dialogue I was having in my head with the Lord. As he formed the big pile of olives, I had a big smile. It was as if God was saying, Wait, wait I have so much abundance in your Harvest, more than you can even see.
I pray for each of you that read this, that God would encourage your heart. As you have been sowing, you will reap. Nothing is unseen by God. Don’t let discouragement rob you from living in victory. I leave you with a couple verses that God has encouraged me with:
Psalm 65:11 You crown the year with Your goodness, And Your paths drip with abundance.
Psalm 23:5&6 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Wishing you a year of overflow and abundance!
